“You will overcome your limits. With strength and confidence you will persevere and Win Your Human Race.”
– Trish Downing
I received an email from my buddy Greg that his sister, Trish Downing, a paraplegic triathlete and motivational speaker sister, entered the Local Hero contest being held by the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA), a non-profit organization dedicated to expanding mobility options for people with disabilities. The contest celebrates National Mobility Awareness Month (May) by providing one deserving winner, one local hero, with a 2013 Custom Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle worth $40,000.
In the email, Trish says that getting her wheelchair in and out of her car every time she wants to go somewhere has become difficult in her 40s, especially after two major back surgeries in the last year. Winning a wheelchair accessible vehicle would help her maintain her mobility and independence.

Instead of giving up, she went on to become the first female paraplegic to complete an Iron distance triathlon. As a triathlete, keynote speaker and author, Trish spends her life motivating others to realize their dreams and overcome adversity.
I have been voting for Trish everyday, and I hope you will to! You can vote for her once per day, per electronic device, from Trish’s contest page on Mobility Awareness Month website, where you can also hear her story. Winning the
